This one-page letter written by Ebenezer Hazard (1744-1817) in New York on December 12, 1789 to Jedidiah Morse (1761-1826), the American geographer and father of Samual F.B. Morse, relates news of family and friends but mainly concerns geographical publishing. The letter is docketed on the verso "Mr Hazard Dec 12 1789 New York birth of Erskine his son respecting geography."

Biography of Ebenezer Hazard
Ebenezer Hazard (1744-1817) was born in Philadelphia and got his start in New York as a publisher. He was the first Deputy Postmaster of New York City and in 1782 was named the Postmaster General and remained in this position until 1789. Hazard married Abigail Arthur in 1783 and fathered at least four children in this marriage.
