The collection consists of 2 bound quires written in one careful round hand.
Preliminary matter to page [6] inlclude 2 blank leaves; A general account of the process at the Mint; Warrant to the Chancellor, rehearsing the indenture making Charles Sloane Cadogan the Master and Worker of. the Mint, November 28, 1770. Contains description of Pyxing; and An account of the monies by the Earl of Leicester [George Townshend, 2nd Marquis Townshend, 1755-1811]. ...1791 to... 1794.
There follows a leaf on "To find the remedy of gold... of silver." Leaves 8-12 are Proceedings on the trial of the Pix [pyx] on December 2 1794. Includes Lord Chancellor's, [Alexander Wedderburn, 1st Earl Rosslyn, 1st Baron Loughborough] charge to the Jury concerning...
Leaves 12-30 are Garbett, Samuel, "The state of the mint in 1782: a report to the Commissioners of the Treasury by Samuel and Francis Garbett." Includes a description of process; standard of gold, silver, copper coins; expenses of the mint under Cadogan; reforms needed. Appendix: detailed emoluments and profits of the officers of the Mint. (32 officers, down to sweeper.) Includes letter to Assay Master Alchorne and reply.
