The full dedication following the title reads: "...pour Charlote Helene Gaiant. XIX [i.e. age 19]", suggesting that the book may have been a birthday present. In the ornament surrounding the title the initials CG and RG are both prominent, suggesting that the books was given to her (and possibly copied) by RG.
