Overview

This colection includes photographic images of railroad bridges, rivers, and bridge construction scenes collected by Clayton M. Crosier and dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The collection also includes papers pertaining to the radio program "International Conversations," sponsored by the Kansas Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), of which Crosier was the executive secretary in the 1950s-1960s.

Biography of Clayton M. Crosier

Clayton M. Crosier (1903-1984) joined the faculty of the School of Engineering in 1945, teaching Applied Mechanics and Civil Engineering at the University of Kansas (KU). Crosier received his bachelor of science degree in 1944 and his master of science degree in 1947, both from KU. He retired in 1971.

Scope and Contents

The photographs located at RH PH 1 and related oversize locations RH PH 1(f) and RH PH 1(ff) include bridges, railroad bridges, bridge construction, rivers, and train scenes in Missouri and Kansas, and other bridges from midwestern and southwestern states in the United States. The numbers assigned to folders and items are based on the original intellectual arrangement of the photographs. However, since the photographs have been physically arranged by size, the folder and item numbers in boxes at this call number are not sequential.

The papers at RH MS 199 include correspondence, mailings, interviews, bulletins, and press releases pertaining to the radio program "International Relations," which were broadcast on the University of Kansas' radio station in Lawrence, Kansas. The radio program featured interviews of foreign students attending the University of Kansas.
