RECENT TITLE (added in pencil to front free endpaper; by bookdealer?): "HINDU ANIMALS & NATIVE TRADES 55 DRAWINGS"

Most album-leaves bear a single sheet containing a single large drawing. Some bear two or three small sheets, each with a small drawing. There is a tissue guard-sheet before almost every leaf.

The leaves upon which the drawings are mounted are numbered in ink in a formal hand. [1]-90: 1-4, 54,58, 67, 77 are represented only by stubs. Leaves 89-90 no longer have any drawings mounted on them.

The drawings themselves--that is, the original separate sheets--are numbered in hasty pencil 22-123. This fairly recent numeration appears on the album-leaf, not on the original sheets. Within this numeration 74, 78, 95, 106 must have been on the 4 removed 1eaves listed above. The last few numbers have been modified, and "123" is penciled on leaf 89.
