Medical and household receipts manuscript
Overview
Manuscript book of medical and household receipts, or recipes, some supplied by individuals and some copied from several Newcastle, England newspapers and other publications, the latest entry dating from 1776. The copyist is not named, but the sources of the receipts are often cited. The personal and geographical names indicate that the manuscript was probably created in the county of Durham in northern England. The individuals cited as sources include doctors, apothecaries, and housewives. The table of contents shows 221 receipts on pages 1-91, beginning "An Index of the Receits in the Book No 1. A medicine for the Ague w'h never fails of Curing were the patient is not a Drinker."
