Accipetres, from G. R. Gray’s Genera of Birds
This collection consists of a single volume containing notes for an ornithological work, as well as loose material removed from the volume. The section Accipitres from G. R. Gray's Genera of Birds, 1849 (42 printed pages) has been placed into this volume and is heavily annotated, interleaved with many sheets of lined blue paper containing extensive annotations on and additions to the text. The additions are largely citations of dated nomenclature up to 1875; but there are some lengthy descriptions of hawks and owls, with sources cited. Richard Bowlder Sharpe, the owner of the volume, was a protege of Gray's, who died in 1872.
