Biography of Mollie
The author of the poem and note is "Mollie" writing to a friend "Emma." Though her last name is unknown, the inscription in the book from which it was taken suggests it was written in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, dated 1865. "Lancaster" is also found on the note. The doodles on the poem read "M. B. H." which suggests these are Mollie's initials. The other initials on the poem are "E. N. B." which may also suggest that these are Emma's initials.

Scope and Contents
The poem and note were found in the pages of "The Christian Minstrel," a book of songs from Europe and the United States. They appear to be written by the same author, Mollie. The poem from Mollie to her friend Emma begins "Many days we spent together" and has end rhymes in four feet, or tetrameters. The poem is written mostly in iambs and expresses Mollie's affection for her friend and her wish to be remembered fondly by Emma. The poem appears to be a draft, not a final copy. There is also a picture of a bird drawn on the page, resembling a peacock. There are scribbles and doodles of initials on the same sheet. The other item found in the book appears to be a note written by the same author, Mollie. The note contains names and the words "Winters Lancaster."
The book in which the items were found is entitled "The Christian Minstrel: A New System of Musical Notation; With a Collection of Psalm Tunes, Anthems, and Chants, Selected from the Most Popular Works in Europe and America. Designed for the Use of Churches, Singing-Schools, and Societies" by J. B. Aikin. The inscription in the book reads "Jacob F. [Huhn], February 26, East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in the year 1865." The names "Clara [Reen] and Mollie B. [H-] are also written in it. The book was published in 1861 so it is likely that the poem and note were written sometime after that. "The Christian Minstrel" is part of the Special Collections at the University of Kansas and is located at call number BK119.
