History of The A.R. Tucker Insurance Policy
The insurance policy for the whaler A.R. Tucker was created for the purpose of insuring losses incurred during the eighth voyage of the ship's travels, beginning November 11, 1868. The policy was to be valid for four years. The A.R. Tucker was built in 1851 and was dismantled in 1908. The owners of the ship were J[ohn] and W[illiam] Wing Company. The A.R. Tucker sailed under the command of Captain Charles Blackmer Barstow. It was Barstow's third voyage on record. The whaler departed out of New Bedford, Massachusetts to the Atlantic Ocean and was successful in obtaining sperm and baleen whale oil, as well as whalebone. The vessel returned in September, 1870 before the policy expired.

The insurance policy between the A.R. Tucker and the Union Mutual Marine Insurance Company of New Bedford, [Massachusetts] specified the terms and conditions under which the company would insure the ship. The insurance policy was valid from November 11, 1868 - November 11, 1872. The premium was $2,250 and the cost of the policy totaled $2,350. The policy was signed by John Wing as the owner of the A.R. Tucker. The policy was validated by the Secretary and President of the Union Mutual Marine Insurance Company of New Bedford.
