Scope and Contents

The collection consists of a diary written by Private M. Charles D. Henry of the Quarter Master Corps stationed in France during World War I. As part of the Aef, Henry's journal details daily military life in Chaumont, France from December 1918 to March 1919. In his entries, Henry mentions events such as seeing President Woodrow Wilson and his wife drive through the camp as well as standing in formation in honor of the burial of President Theodore Roosevelt. There are photographs pasted on the front and back covers of the journal. The manuscript is handwritten except for the last few entries from 1919, which were typed. The last part of the journal is blank. Also included in the collection is a booklet entitled "To The Homeward-Bound Americans" by Vorst, B. Van.
