The manuscript of I. Spurling on "Mensuration and Land Surveying" is an original bound manuscript of approximately 320 unnumbered pages. It most likely originated in the United Kingdom. The manuscript includes mathematical equations and proofs for various shapes and parabolas, as well as instructions on building trades such as carpentry and bricklaying. There is also a section regarding land surveying. The manuscript is written in mostly black ink, though it does include red as well. There are several small sketches of animals such as a pig, horse, fish and bird, some of which are colored in green and brown. The last part of the manuscript includes hand-drawn maps and measurements of geographical areas of landowners such as the estates of the Branstones, Clemsons, and Carlton Field, taken in 1796.
