Grand Rapids, Michigan native Thomas L. Sherred (1915-1985) was a writer of science fiction. His papers for the period of 1966-1989 reflect his science fiction writing but primarily consist of correspondence with other authors, including Lloyd Biggle, Jr, Howard DeVore, and Virginia Kidd. It also includes working manuscripts for his novel Alien Island and manuscripts of short stories.

Biography of T. L. Sherred

Thomas L. Sherred was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He worked in the automotive industry, advancing from tool rooms to technical writing and public relations.

Sherred published his first novel, Alien Island, in 1970. He also published a collection of short stories.

After Sherred's death in 1985, his friend and fellow author Lloyd Biggle, Jr. completed and published the novel, Alien Main, that Sherred had begun before his death.

Scope and Contents

The T.L. Sherred papers range in date from 1966 to 1989 and consist primarily of correspondence with other authors, including Lloyd Biggle, Jr, Howard DeVore, and Virginia Kidd. Fliers, convention information and nametags, and fanzines are interspersed with the correspondence, in addition to the draft and proofs of Alien Mind and a handful of other stories.
