Scope and Contents
The first loose item removed from the account book is a note written in French by Charles Van Sanden and dated November 13, 1910. Van Sanden writes that this is the first account book with which his paternal great grandfather began his lumber business in 1790. The book was treasured in the de Coster family for over a century and when the male line of the family died out, the book was passed onto Van Sanden and he wishes that it be passed onto his eldest son for safekeeping.
