Biography of Lloyd Sponholtz
Lloyd Sponholtz was born December 31, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to Frank and Edna Voltz Sponholtz. He received an undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University, a master's from Marquette University and a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) in 1969.
In 1967, Sponholtz began his tenure as Professor of History at the University of Kansas. He authored several articles on voting and temperance. He also served on numerous committees, including the University Council, Senate Executive Committee, Mount Oread Scholars Program, and Campus Historical Planning Committee. He was awarded the J. Michael Young Academic Advisor Award (2000) and the W.T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence (2002).
Dr. Lloyd Sponholtz died September 30, 2008 at the age of 71.
