Overview

This collection consists of materials from Ellen Gold's papers about Scottish history and the William Roy-Nancy Kassebaum Senatorial race of 1978. The collection also contains the John Anderson for Kansas campaign manual 1980. Included are various cassettes, reel to reel recordings, and VHS/Betamax tapes of political speeches dating from President William Howard Taft to President George H.W. Bush.

Biography of Ellen Reid Gold

Ellen Reid Gold graduated with her Masters degree from the University of Kansas in 1965 in Speech Communication. Gold went on to get her PhD from the University of Indiana, then returned to KU and taught in the Department of Communications Studies for over 30 years. Gold’s research has focused on political communication in American public address to understand the impact of political rhetoric as delivered by political figures, including President Ronald Reagan. Her research has also focused on how pundits utilize that rhetoric to create political comedy on late night television programs, such as The Tonight Show or the David Letterman Show, for mass consumption.

Gold's collection includes materials on Scottish history, audio and video recordings of political interviews and speeches dating from U.S. President William Howard Taft to President George H.W.
