Biography of Elvin J. Bailey
Elvin J. Bailey was born 31 May 1907 in Nowata, Oklahoma. After attending high school in Oklahoma, he attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. Bailey went on to become Abilene, Kansas' first African American mayor. In 1945, Bailey started the Bailey Truck Line Company. Bailey married Mable Murray 4 Sept 1933. The couple had two sons: Fred and Harvey. Elvin J. Bailey died 12 June 1990.

The Elvin J. Bailey Papers date from 1956 to 1987. They consist of photocopies of a scrapbook.
