Records of the Sigma Alpha Iota Lawrence (Kansas) Alumnae Chapter
Overview
This collection of organizational records from the Sigma Alpha Iota alumnae chapter of Lawrence, Kansas contains several books of minutes, treasurers records, information about the organization's history, obituaries for past members, awards given by and to other organizations, a collection of yearbooks and Pan Pipes magazines, as well as flyers and programs from performances. Additionally there are several scrapbooks documenting the organization's everyday activities, as well as one from an anniversary celebration of the University of Kansas' student Beta Beta chapter and another from a special Music for China benefit.

History of Sigma Alpha Iota
Sigma Alpha Iota was the first international fraternity for women, founded on June 12th, 1903 at the University of Michigan School of Music. Its goal is to support music in all its forms the world over.
The Beta Beta student chapter at the University of Kansas was founded in 1947, and the Lawrence, Kansas alumnae and patroness chapter was founded in 1961. Patroness chapters support arts in the local community, and the alumnae chapter has maintained an active interest in supporting members of the student chapter at KU, including through joint meetings and providing service and achievement awards to Beta Beta members. The alumnae chapter otherwise has provided scholarships to KU students and to junior high students in the area, as well as participating in national service projects devoted to the arts.
