History of the Kansas Society of New York
The purpose of the Society was "to cherish and perpetuate the memories, associations, traditions and records of the State of Kansas and its people, and to cultivate friendly relations between Kansas men residing or sojourning in New York, and to provide headquarters in the City of New York." The organization was a society for men with Kansas ties that met and reminisced and discussed events in Kansas. They had scheduled meetings throughout the year with an annual meeting held close to Kansas Day (January 29).
The Society had officers and held elections on the third Tuesday of November. Members had to be "over eighteen years of age, a native or the son of a native of Kansas, or who was a resident of Kansas for a period of three years, or who graduated from any of the higher educational institutions in Kansas, or who was the son of any member of the Society, may be admitted as an active member, provided he resided in or within fifty miles of the City of New York."
