The collection includes several photographs, personal and professional letters, and other writings by authors, artists, American presidents, nobility, royalty, and other notable persons from the United States, British Isles, and Continental Europe, compiled by Robert B. Riss. English translations for some of the writings in other languages are included, as well as some labels and bookseller information. Biography of Robert Bailey Riss
Robert Bailey Riss (1927-2005) of Kansas City, Missouri was a graduate of the University of Kansas and remained a lifelong supporter of the university. Most of his business career was spent accumulating and managing interests in real estate, commercial banking, transportation, and insurance. He devoted many years to building his collection of autographs of notable persons.

This collection has been arranged by the author's geographical region and position in society. The series include United States of America: Presidents and other notable persons; British Isles: Royalty and other notable persons, Continental Europe: Royalty and other notable persons; America, British Isles, and Continental Europe: Authors and artists; and Miscellaneous.
Within each series, items are organized alphabetically by author's family or reigning name. Oversize materials are typically described at the end of each series and have been physically separated.
