Judge William L. Huggins Photographs
Overview
This collection includes 24 photographs that belonged to Judge William L. Huggins, a jurist and lawyer who lived and practiced in Emporia, Kansas most of his life. Most of the photographs are cabinet card portraits of individuals and groups; some are landscape or home interior photographs. Some photographs are idenitified with writing on the back, but many are not. The photographs were in the possession of Huggins' daughter, Margaret H. Ruddock, before being donated to the Kenneth Spencer Research Library.

Biography of William Lloyd Huggins
William Lloyd Huggins was born in Ohio on May 14, 1865, the son of Nancy (Diboll) and Milton Huggins. He came to Kansas in 1885 where he spent time as a farm hand, a teacher, a principal, and a superintendent. In 1897 he was admitted to the bar and he served as presiding judge of the Kansas Court of Industrial Relations, through which role he wrote and published Labor and Democracy.
Huggins married Emma E. Spohr in 1898, and the couple had three children: William L., Mary E., and Margaret. Judge Huggins lived and practiced as a lawyer and jurist in Emporia, Kansas for most of his life before dying on May 23, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri.
