Biography of Quentin James Eklund

Quentin James Eklund was born April 28, 1920 in Ellsworth, Kansas. He took over a photographic equipment lease and studio in Ellsworth in 1940 from Lee Smith of Great Bend, KS. Eklund's photography career was interrupted in 1942 by Army service, serving in the European theater until his discharge in 1945.

When returning to Ellsworth, Eklund opened his own studio in his home, moving the studio downtown in 1948. His wife June V. (Haydon), whom he married in 1943, helped him with customers and with oil coloring portraits. The studio expanded as a family affair as their children Machelle, Lori, and Juli grew up and also helped with the studio.

In 1953 Eklund moved his studio one last time, buying a building that allowed more work space and better customer availability. Eklund produced a wide variety of photographs, including portraits, weddings, family groups, animals, architecture, and landscapes. He retired in 1985 and passed away on November 28, 1988. His wife June passed away in 2009.
