History of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) was founded in 1881 and chartered by Congress in 1954. It is a fraternal organization that works to preserve the history of Union veterans who fought in the United States' Civil War and is composed of direct descendents of Union soldiers. The organization was formed out of and is successor to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), which had been formed by Civil War veterans soon after the war was over.
Current camps of the SUVCW located in Kansas include Wichita, Topeka, Lawrence, Olathe, and Humboldt.
