History of The Rea-Patterson Milling Company
The Rea-Patterson Milling Company of Coffeyville, Kansas (later the Bartlett Flour Mill) was established in 1894, and became one of the largest flour milling operations in Southern Kansas. The company's founder was P. H. Rea, who was born in Carroll County, Missouri in 1840. In 1894, his son Edward S. Rea became bookkeeper of the company, and in 1896 became its manager and treasurer. According to information contained on the Rea-Patterson Milling Company's 1924 letterhead, the company operated thirty-five country grain elevators and had a grain storage capacity of one million bushels.
