Overview
This collection contains a variety of materials photocopied from Ida Mae Newsom, including obituaries and funeral programs; news clippings about marriages, vow renewals, and other personal announcements about family and African American community members in Independence; awards and certificates for service performed by Newsom, particularly from the Order of the Eastern Star; programs and clippings regarding the St. John's Baptist Church and Newsom's involvement with it; and programs, news clippings, and other materials regarding the Independence Homecoming celebrations. Newsom served on the Black Homecoming Committee in the 1980s and was a resident of Independence, Montgomery County, Kansas. There are also 3 photographs located at RH MS-P P593.
