Biography of William H. Morrison
William H. Morrison enlisted in the United States Union Army April 1, 1863. He was mustered in on April 6, 1863 and was transferred to the 7th Iowa Calvalry Regiment, Company D. He lived in Van Buren County, Iowa, and was mustered out of the army June 22, 1866 when his regiment was dissolved. He passed away in 1933 at the age of 85.
History of 7th Regiment, Iowa Cavalry
The 7th Regiment of Iowa Cavalry was organized at Davenport, Iowa in April 1863. The regiment moved to Omaha, Nebraska, June, 1863, and was assigned to duty at various points in Nebraska and Dakota, as garrison, guarding lines of telegraph and travel, and escorting trains and protecting emigrants. The regiment had frequent combat with Native American tribes in the Departments of Missouri, Kansas and the Northwest. The regiment also participated in several expeditions against Native Americans on the Great Plains until the regiment was mustered out on June 22, 1866.
