Overview

This collection includes work from Marlin Harmony's teaching career at the University of Kansas, as well as reasearch grant proposals and correspondence, a list and pieces of many of Marlin Harmony's publications including a copy of an Introduction to Molecular Energies and Spectra textbook with his corrections and edits, and a number of awards and honors he receieved for his research and work.

Biography of Marlin Harmony

Born in Nebraska and completing his early education in Kansas City, Missouri, Marlin Harmony attended the University of Kansas for his B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1958, with highest distinction. He continued his education at the University of California-Berkley, receiving his doctorate in part through IBM and National Science Foundation Fellowships. Harmony then attended Harvard as a National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellow with E.B. Wilson, finishing his education in Molecular Spectroscopy in 1961-62.

Harmony returned to the University of Kansas as an assistant professor in 1962, becoming a full professor in 1971. He took a sabbatical leave at Cambridge University, reviewing and researching quantum mechanical tunneling and authored An Introduction to Molecular Energies and Spectra. Harmony guided the Chemistry Department at KU as Chair from 1980-1988.
