This collection includes records of the Douglas County Genealogical Society in Kansas dating from its founding in 1975 to the early 2000s. History of the Douglas County Genealogical Society
The Douglas County Genealogical Society (Dcgs) was formed in the fall of 1975 by a group of Lawrence, Kansas locals who felt they could be more successful researching and studying their family histories in a group through mutually providing assistance. The goal of the society was to form a common library of basic genealogical books and to sponser workshops and lectures of various topics that related to family history research. The Society created a newsletter called "The Pioneer" that helped inform all of their members on articles and upcoming events.
