History of the Hutchinson, Kansas chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (commonly abbreviated to NAACP) was founded February 12, 1909. Considered one of the oldest, largest, and most widely recognized civil rights organization, the NAACP has stood by its principles of equal rights and equal treatment, regardless of race or nationality. The Hutchinson branch, started around 1942 and one of the longest continuously-running branches in Kansas, is an extension of those ideals, meant to protect the civil rights of those in the city of Hutchinson, Kansas and any neighboring area who may not have their own NAACP chapter.
