History of the President Obama's Kansas Heritage Project

The President Obama’s Kansas Heritage Project was founded in 2009 with the goal of collecting and documenting oral histories, artifacts, and other resources about Barack Obama's heritage in Kansas. The group hopes to inspire children and others with the president's origins, sense of family, and Midwestern values. The group's project was supported with funding from the Kansas Humanities Council and has deposited copies of oral histories at several cultural heritage repositories across Kansas, many in and around El Dorado, Butler County, where the project originated.
