Personal papers of David Guth
Overview
This collection contains transcripts, audio files, scripts and journal articles for research into declining populations in Western Kansas. One of the focuses is the the role of media in maintaining a sense of community. The collection includes papers summarizing the digital files as well as interview questions, a flyer for a "Preventing the Ghost Town" symposium, county profiles, research tour logs, and interview transcripts. The audio disc includes files of academic journal articles, audio files and selected transcripts, notes, and information from the Ghost Town conference held at the University of Kansas. Disc also includes audio files from the Donald Worster collection, RH MS 271, held by the Kenneth Spencer Research Library.

All researchers interested in reviewing this material must consult Spencer Research Library Public Services staff (785-864-4334 or ksrlref@ku.edu, 9-5 M-F CST) before a planned visit; staff will respond within three days, though materials may not be available in that timeframe. Access to audio visual materials may require digitization first. Be advised that drop-in requests for this material cannot be accommodated.

Biography of David Guth
David Guth is an associate professor at the University of Kansas William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. His areas of special research interest are crisis communication, political communication, and the history of public relations as a field. In addition to teaching responsibilities, he serves as a private public relations consultant. Guth has made four trips to St. Petersburg, Russia, and one trip to Ashbagat, Turkmenistan, at the invitation of the United States Department of State for the purposes of research and teaching.
