Biography of John C. Morley

John "Jack" Morley was an architect with Morley and Geraughty Architects in Kansas City. Graduating from Rockhurst College in 1936 with a degree in economics, Morley then went to the University of Kansas and received a degree in architecture in 1939. He and business partner Tom Geraughty established their architectural firm in 1948. Morley designed projects from Masterplanning to more Mid-Century housing from the 1950s through the late 1980s.

Morley served as a pilot and teacher of pilots during World War II, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.

After the war, Morley, in addition to his professional design work, began teaching at the University of Kansas, becoming a full professor in architecture in 1961. He received a Fulbright Fellowship to the Danish Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1955-1956, giving a series of lectures on American construction and contemporary design.

Morley married Marie Thompson in 1946. They had four sons: Thomas, Michael, Brian, and Kevin; and one daughter, Shila. John C. Morley died in September 2001.
