Biography of Orvis Hull

Orvis Hull, the son of C.A. and Laura Hull, was born in Scott City, Kansas on October 15th, 1900. C.A. came to Kansas from Iowa in 1886 with his parents Arthur and Louise Hull; Laura Hull came from Lincoln, Illinois to Kansas in 1896 and married C.A. in 1898.

Orvis Hull enlisted in the Navy after the United States joined World War I and was sent to Great Lakes Station in Illinois to train, attaining the rank of second class seaman.

Before Hull was sent out for duty, the Spanish influenza epidemic hit his camp. He recovered after contracting the flu, but shortly after returning to work he contracted pneumonia and meningitis as complications from his illness. His father traveled to Chicago to see Orvis, but was turned away until it was certain that Orvis would not recover. Orvis Hull passed away on October 3rd, 1918.
