History of the Kansas Commission on Civil Rights

The State of Kansas passed the Kansas Act Against Discrimination in 1953, creating the Anti-Discrimination Commission that focused only on employment practices without any enforcement capabilities. The act was amended in 1961 to become enforceable, and the commission was renamed as the Kansas Commission on Civil Rights. The commission had a purview over discrimination due to race, religion, color, national origin, and ancestry.

In 1991 the Kansas Commission on Civil Rights became the Kansas Human Rights Commission.
