Biography of Florence Harkrader Hastings
Florence Harkrader, the daughter of James V. and Bertha Louise (Schiller) Harkrader, was born in Iuka, Pratt County, Kansas in 1896. She spent time in Emporia and attended the University of Kansas, where she joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. In 1925 she married physician Fred E. Hastings. They had two children, Carol (Hastings) Graham and James F. Hastings.
Florence Harkrader Hastings taught in a grade school, economics at Pratt High School, and also in the California school system. She moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1980 after her husband died. She was active in the Pratt First Presbyterian Church, Federated Music Clubs, and the American Association of University Women. Florence Hastings died in 1992.
