Overview

This collection consists primarily of papers from classes David Frayer has taught at the University of Kansas in the Anthropology Department. Also included are papers regarding student/faculty controversies at KU, particularly regarding the lawsuit by and later dismissal of Dr. Dorothy Willner; correspondence between Frayer and others (mostly professional correspondence between fellow academics); and papers and articles by Frayer and others.

Biography of David Frayer

David Frayer has been a professor of anthropology at the University of Kansas since 1975. He recieved his BA in Anthropology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1969; his MA in archeology from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 1971; and his PhD in biological anthropology from the University of Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1976.

Frayer was an assistant professor from 1975-1980 in the Department of Anthropology at KU and was promoted in 1981 to associate professor, reaching full professor status in 1990. He served as chair of the department from 1989-1994 and has also held resident scholar status at the Istituto Italiano di Antropologia dell'Uomo at the Universita la Sapienza in Rome, Italy in June 2006. Frayer became professor emeritus in 2014.

Frayer has performed research around the world, particularly in the United States, Western and Central Europe (including Hungary, Croatia, and Czechoslovakia), Northern Thailand, and Israel. His research interests include paleoanthropology and human osteology, with a particular interest in Old World prehistory, or the evolution of European Upper Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic skeletal populations.
