Biography of Frances Parkinson Keyes (1885-1970)

Frances Parkinson Wheeler was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and grew up in New England. In 1904 she married Henry Wilder Keyes, and they brought up their family of three sons on his estate in New Hampshire. Her husband's involvement in politics brought them to Washington, D.C., and after his death in 1938, Frances Parkinson Keyes eventually settled in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Keyes wrote memoirs and novels, including her first novel Old Gray Homestead (1919), The Story of a Washington Hostess (1937), and Dinner at Antoine's (1948), among many others. Later in her career she also wrote poetry and short stories and experimented in other forms. She also served as a contributing editor to Good Housekeeping magazine from 1923-1935, writing a series called "Letters from a Senator's Wife" for the magazine during the 1920s.
