Howard, operator; Lottie Howard, his wife, in the upper door; and their daughter and son in the windows of the brick building. "Foundry at Junction City - 1885" written above the door.

History of Junction City, Kansas
Junction City is located at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers in northeastern Kansas. It developed as a trading center for the nearby military post, Fort Riley, which was established in 1852. Junction City was incorporated in 1855 by army officers Robert Wilson and Adam Brarry and is the county seat for Geary County, which was known as Davis County until 1889.
