History of White Swan Laundry
The White Swan Laundry was located in Lyons, Rice County, Kansas. In 1920, it was listed for sale: It was going to be closed by the Board of Health, as the city of Lyons had no sewage. The laundry contained five washers and a full line of presses and was capable of five to six hundred dollars worth of laundry per week.
In 1921, the laundry was owned by Jim Board. Spontaneous combustion of coal caused a fire in the rear of the laundry, which resulted in approximately one thousand dollars in damages.
In 1923, the laundry employed nine people. By 1930, this rose to thirteen.
