Biography of George Strachey (1828-1912)

George Strachey spent his career in the Foreign Office and diplomatic service of Great Britain. In 1866 he was initially appointed as Secretary of Legation to Argentina, but that position did not proceed. The following year he was appointed Secretary of Legation to Denmark and held that role until 1873. In 1873, Strachey was appointed Charge d'Affaires and minister resident for Saxony, one of the German states, a diplomatic position that did not normally lead to a career with distinction. Strachey retired from this post in 1897 and died in February 1912.
