Biography of Richard Franklin Olmstead (1921-1943)
Richard F. Olmstead was born December 25, 1921 in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Philip Dudley and Grace (Smith) Olmstead. After graduating from Lawrence High School, he taught mechanical drawing at the University of Kansas for the naval training program, as well as working as a mechanic for the Ong Company at the city airport.
Olmstead married Jeanne Kathryn Laux on March 31, 1942 in Neosho, Missouri. On February 22, 1943, Richard Olmstead was killed... in a car accident by a drunk driver.

For cities with just a few matchbooks, no categories have been provided. All businesses associated with Kansas City are grouped together, whether located on the Kansas or Missouri side.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Transfer from the Kansas City Museum of History and Science, which acquired the collection in 1978 from Christine M. Lavery.

All matches removed and all matchbooks rehoused into single binder by KU Libraries' conservation services in 2013.
