Journal of European tours
Overview
A two-volume journal of tours on the European continent during the 1820s and 1830s by what appears to an English gentleman. He was interested in paintings, theatre, opera, architecture, antiquities, inscriptions, and prosperity in particular and in scenery, female beauty, and politics to a lesser degree. Locations visited include Italy, Spain and Gibralter, Greece, Asia Minor (Constantinople and Belgrade of the Ottoman Empire), and, briefly, France... and Switzerland. The volumes appear to have been written after 1834 from notes kept by the author on his travels. Place names used in this finding aid reflect place names found in the diaries.
