History of the Urban League of Wichita, Kansas
In 1954 a group of Wichita, Kansas citizens formed the Wichita Urban League, an affiliate of the National Urban League. The organization's name changed in 2004 to the Urban League of the MidPlains; it again changed in early 2007 to the Urban League of Kansas. The Wichita-based league was founded to facilitate economic self-reliance and an improveed quality of life for its clients through education, empowerment, and self-respect. The National Urban League was founded in 1910 with a dedication to economic empowerment to elevate the standard of living for historically underserved urban communities, and its headquarters are located in New York City.
