History of the Erie Daily Sentinel
Established in 1883, the Neosho County Democrat was a newspaper that circulated around Neosho County, Kansas from 1883 to 1923. In 1907, the newspaper was bought by Alfred “Alf” Quincy Wooster, who served as editor and proprietor for the paper until 1923. By 1909, the newspaper released a daily copy and was one of the leading papers in southeastern Kansas. At this time, Alf Wooster’s son, Lester Wooster, also began to work at the newspaper. In 1914, Erie, Kansas became the county seat for Neosho County, and the paper was moved to Erie and renamed the Erie Daily Sentinel.
