History of Perry and Guthrie, Oklahoma
Perry is the county seat for Noble County, Oklahoma and was established as a town for a land office around the time of the 1893 Cherokee Outlet Opening. The town was named for the surveyor sent to lay out land office towns, J.A. Perry. Noble County was named for President Benjamin Harrison's Secretary of the Interior, John Willock Noble.
Guthrie is the county seat for Logan County, Oklahoma, a county neighboring Noble County to the south. Guthrie was established in 1887 as a railroad station with the name Deer Creek, later changing names to Guthrie in honor of Judge John Guthrie of Topeka. Guthrie served as the territorial capital. Logan County was named for U.S. Senator John A. Logan of Illinois.
