Biography of Arthur Jellison (1894-1964)
Arthur Asa Jellison was born August 31, 1894 in Wilson, Kansas, the son of Charles Reynard and Iva Bertha (Humphrey) Jellison. He attended the University of Kansas. He owned a photography studio in Wilson, taking studio portraits of individuals and families for events including births and baptisms, child portraits, weddings, naturalization photographs, confirmation or first communion celebrations, and graduations. In the 1950s and 1960s at least, Jellison also took photographs for yearbooks and annuals for some of the area schools. Wilson, named as such and first settled in 1873, attracted a variety of Bohemian settlers and in 1974 was named the Czech Capital of Kansas.
Jellison was a veteran of World War I and later active in the American Legion; he was also a member of the Wilson Presbyterian Church. He married Mary Cambell Wood in 1922, but she died in 1923. In 1929 he married Alice Juanita Bair. Jellison had six children: Charles, Kenneth, William, John, Mary, and Martha Jane. Arthur Jellison died in Topeka, KS on May 25, 1964 at the age of 69.
