Biography of Ruth Gwendolyn Gregg (1903-1981)

Ruth Gwendolyn Gregg was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 10, 1903. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. G. Archibald Gregg, and her uncle, Archibald's brother, was Bishop John A. Gregg of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Archibald Gregg was the former President of Western University in Quindaro, Kansas and Shorter College in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Ruth Gwendolyn Gregg was a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Fine Arts in music. She was the organist and a member of the First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Kansas.

Gregg later taught music in the Jackonsonville, Florida public school system. After retirement, she moved to Los Angeles, California to live with her cousins Cordea and Dorothy Cotton. After suffering a brief illness after a stroke, she passed away on July 6, 1981. She had a nephew, two great nephews, and several cousins.
