Biography of Daniel Fogle (1832-1930)

Daniel Fogle was born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and spent his youth in Brookville, the county seat of Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. Fogle learned tannery from his father, Christopher Fogle, and from a young age, helped keep the books of Christopher Fogle's tannery businesses. From 1853 to 1863, Daniel Fogle carried out interests in the lumber business in Jefferson County before running a harness and saddlery business with Christopher Fogle from 1863 to the late 1860s.

In 1869, Daniel Fogle moved his family to the newly established Williamsburg, Franklin County, Kansas (originally Williamsburgh, founded in 1868). In 1873, he purchased the business of J.L. Barnett and opened a general store that would eventually become the D. Fogle Mercantile Company. One of the founding members of Williamsburg, Daniel Fogle also served as the Justice of the Peace and Township Treasurer for some years as well as being a member of the district school board for ten years.
