Biography of Robert C. Wilson (1943-1999)

Robert Cameron Wilson was born June 21, 1943, the son of Robert Warren and Geraldine Lee Wilson. After graduating from Lawrence High School, he earned his bachelors in science in education with an emphasis in English and history from Black Hills State College in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Wilson taught English at three different junior and senior high schools in South Dakota in the late 1960s before turning to a writing and music career. He was editor/owner/writer of King Harvest Review from 1970-1973, owner and operator of Lawrence, Kansas-based Better Days Record Store from 1973-1983, and then served as assistant manager at Kief's Discount Records and Stereo Supply. King Harvest Review was a monthly magazine focused on current popular music, sent to radio stations, record labels, and individuals by subscription.

In the 1990s, Wilson had a column in The Note and a radio show for KLWN/KLZR, both called the "New Melody Ranch," for which he developed the character Ranger Bob. The radio show focused on vintage country and western music, and the format included jokes and dialogue. The column discussed recent music releases and concerts in a variety of genres, including world, folk, jazz, older rock and country, blues, soul, and pop music. He also hosted and produced "Ranger Bob's Retro Rendevous" for KTOP Radio from 1992-1993, which focused on music from the 1920s-1960s.

"Ranger Bob" Wilson died on August 16, 1999.
