Biography of Thomas "Mike" Rundle

Thomas "Mike" Rundle, the son of Jack and Sylvia Rundle, graduated from the University of Kansas (KU) in 1976. After graduating, he worked for over 15 years at the University of Kansas as an administrative assistant to various departments before transferring to the Department of Publications.

In 1997, Rundle began working at the Mercantile Co-op (the Merc) in Lawrence. Starting as a Customer/Member Services Coordinator, he eventually became the Front End Manager as a grocery specialist and head cashier. He also served as a newsletter editor for the Merc for many years. Rundle retired from the Merc in May 2022 after 25 years.

Rundle was also heavily involved in local politics. He has been elected as a city commissioner for three four-year terms between 1987-1991 and 1999-2008. As part of the City Commission, Rundle was also elected to serve as mayor, a largely ceremonial post, from 2001-2002 and 2004-2005. In his capacity as mayor, Rundle ran commission meetings and, with the commission’s consent, made appointments to city advisory boards.
