History of Hopefield Presbyterian Mission
Hopefield Presbyterian Mission was first located near the Grand River (Neosho River) in Oklahoma in the fall of 1820. Dr. William Comb Requa, George Requa, and other white men served as the founders of Hopefield Presbyterian Mission. The Mission served as an addition to Union Mission and functioned as a mission and agricultural school for the Osage Nation.
Hopefield Presbyterian Mission was moved along the Grand River in 1830 to a new location near Pensacola, Oklahoma. This second Hopefield Presbyterian Mission suffered a flood and a cholera epidemic that killed nearly all the original founders. Dr. Requa survived the epidemic, though he lost his family. He moved the Hopefield Presbyterian Mission to its final location near Oswego, Kansas in 1836.
Hopefield Presbyterian Mission in Labette County closed in July of 1837.
